Big is Beautiful

In the fashion world, skinny is often the norm for beautiful. Jean Paul Gaultier challenged the notion by sending Velvet D'amour down the runway during his Spring 2007 show at the Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday. Okay, so she only made one exit, and yes, it'll probably not overturn the fashion norm. But at least, one designer is willing to face up to it.

Big can be beautiful. I won't say big IS beautiful. I am not going to generalize and say that all plus-sized girls are beautiful. I am not going to gloss over and make people feel safe and secure in a world that has no time for delusions. There is some work to be done in being beautiful AND big. Now, the work all lies in your head and of course, exercise, but we will come to that later.

Big can be beautiful when you are at ease with your own body. When you have come to terms with your size and that no, those thighs will never become those slim ones on the runway. Look in the mirror. You are your best critic. Nobody knows you like you do. Recognise your physical flaws and find out which are your best features. Then, dress to enhance those attributes and cover up those flaws. I am a firm supporter of wraparound dresses (very forgiving on the figure) and A-line skirts (skims those hips and thighs and flatters!). You'll be surprised at how good you'll feel.

Next up, exercise. Lets face it. Even skinny girls need to exercise. It burns fat and tones the body. Not to mention how good one feels after a good workout. Need i say more?

Ok, this seems more like a magazine column than a blog entry. I hope no one gets offended by my honest opinions. Comment if you want :) the tagboard's just round the corner.

Ciao bellas~
